Most almonds sold as premium in India are California grown. They look uniform, they taste flat, and they cost a fraction to produce. Mamra is a different nut entirely.
Mamra almonds grow slowly in dry mountain orchards without irrigation stress. That slow growth packs the kernel with nearly twice the oil of a regular almond, which is where the sweetness and crunch come from. Less than 5 percent of almonds sold in India are true mamra, so grading matters. Ours are sorted by hand and packed without polishing or coating.
You will notice the difference in the first bite. The kernel is smaller, curved, and heavier than it looks.
How to use it
Soak 5 to 7 almonds overnight and eat them in the morning, the way Kashmiri households have done for generations. Store in an airtight jar away from sunlight.
